non naturalistic meaning, it was not all just speaking. physical theater was involved and also choral speaking and the actors making sound effects to match the scene. it was performed by West Sussex County Theater, who are kids between 16-21 doing this play for they're GCSE's or A Levels.
Plot:
the play was set in the mid 17th century, in Australia , which was where, at the time, Criminals (in England) were sent to be punished or even hung if they even did the slightest thing wrong such as steal a loaf bread, they will get sent they're. however the captain of that justice orders, organises
a play using the criminals that were sent over to act. and from then i cannot go deeper into the story without spoiling it.
Presentation:
the overall acting was great. for young people this was probably a good leap from what they may have previously experienced in they're past schools. personally I do not know that but I'm just assuming. it was good to see the range vary from 16 year old's to 21 year old's. the characters they played were very believable, as they were so close to you, you could smell them and almost feel they're actual emotions. the actual performance space was very small and almost like an arena. this meaning the audience can watch it at all different angles rather than from the main facing the front. this type of Theatre is called Pro-monad Theatre. the costume design was very again, believable. typical sailor's outfits from that era. the criminals clothes were typical ragged, pauper's clothes from that era.
